You've taken some difficult midterms and now you want to enjoy yourself! More and more students are considering spring break travel each year. With tuition costs and the state of the economy you want to have fun without breaking the bank. Below are some tips to save on spring break travel while visiting a fun destination and getting some much needed rest and relaxation.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Know-how
  • Resources
  • Sunscreen
  1. Step 1

Spring break generally falls in the months of March or April. This is considered the "off-season" for most resorts, cruise lines and hotels. Just traveling in these months will save you a substantial amount of money. Congratulations. You are on your way to a fun and frugal trip.

  2. Step 2

Wait until January to book your trip. By waiting for last minute deals you leave more room for negotiating. Within two months of your trip companies are starting to get worried about filling the seat, room, or cabin and will be willing to cut prices and add bonuses to fill those spots. Many travel companies such as Vacations to Go rely on this fact to get you affordable last minute vacation deals.

  3. Step 3

Look for companies who are willing to cut special deals for student travel. STA Travel is a company dealing exclusively in student travel and offers discount spring break packages. They offer trips within the United States, Mexico, the Caribbean and Europe.

  4. Step 4

Sign up for a student discount card. Student Advantage is a company that offers this service. By purchasing a $20 card (good for one year) you automatically save up to 15% on Greyhound purchases, 5-10% on car rentals, and up to $75 off at both Orbitz and Cheap Ticket.com.

Note: The card is also good for a discount on every day purchases at Target, Macy's, AMC Theaters, Barnes & Noble and several restaurant chains.

  5. Step 5

Travel with a group. Not only is this a safety precaution but most companies will offer a discounted rate for traveling in groups of 10 or more. The more the merrier right?

  6. Step 6

Stay in the country or travel by boat. The current cost of international flights is bank breaking and having to convert your dollars to another currency isn't always easy. Unless you have your heart set on international travel staying in the US is a great idea. If you have a trip to the Caribbean or Mexico on your mind why not travel by boat? Taking a cruise ensures that all your meals are paid for, all ports will accept American money and you won't have to pay for costly international flights.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure to leave copies of important documents with someone at home.
  • Make sure to leave contact information with someone at home.
  • Never travel alone
