Most older vehicles have there rear view mirrors attached to the windshield. After time many of them tend to fall off due to rough handling, or the adhesive may no longer be affective. In this e-how I will explain how to replace a rear view mirror.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • replacement mirror
  • glass adhesive
  • razor blade
  • time
  1. Step 1

    The first step in replacing a rear view mirror is removing the old adheasive from the windshield. This can be done by gently removing it with a razor blade, or a glue remover found at a local hardware store.

  2. Step 2

    Once all is removed, clean the area with soap and water. make sure all remaining glue/solvent have been removed.

  3. Step 3

    Next, remove the mirror plate. This is the small metal piece that the mirror slides on to attach to windshield. Find the area that you will place the new mirror. It should be centered. Take the windshield glue and add a small amount to the plate. Place in the spot where it is needed.

  4. Step 4

    Hold the plate until it no longer moves. Let the glue cure described on the directions.

  5. Step 5

    Once dried, place mirror on the plate. There will be a small screw near the base of the mirror. Gently tighten until the mirror no longer moves.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure that windows are open when using glue. The fumes can make you sick.
  • Make sure to center the plate before gluing on windshield.
