Use Nebulizer

Were you or your child just diagnosed with having Asthma? You may now need to use a Nebulizer daily or just for accute situations.
Here are some directions to get you familiar with how to use your nebulizer.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Nebulizer
  • Medicine for Nebulizer
  • A book or toy for children
  1. Step 1

First get the proper prescription for your condition for your nebulizer.
There are a few different kinds some with steroids and some without.
They both will open you or your childs airways and let the airflow more freely.

  2. Step 2

Now that you have your nebulizer and medicine, find a table to sit at and set up the nebulizer in front of you.
There will be a hose one end connects to the machine and the other end will connect to the mouthpiece.
Take the top of off the mouthpiece and this is where you will put in the medication. Take out one of the viles of medicine {only one vile is used at a treatment unless otherwise noted by your doctor}.
Twist off the top of the vile and squeeze the medication into the tube of the mouthpiece. Plug your nebulizer into an outlet.

  3. Step 3

Now make yourself or child comfortable and turn the machine on. Mist will start to flow through and you will need to put the mouthpiece into you mouth and breath in normally.
A book or a magazine passes the time nicely. If its a child let them draw or read to them.
It can take anywhere from 7 to 10 min. to use up all of the medicine. You will know your done when the mist stops and you cannot visibly see any liquid in the bottom

Tips & Warnings
  • If your child is sitting on your lap while he or she is getting their treatments, try to keep your head turned and not breath in much of the mist. It can make you feel jittery when its not needed.
  • Always consult your doctor first.
  • If it is an emergency call 911 first
  • If after the treatments you or your child still has trouble breathing call your doctors.
