How to Prevent Sunburn While Encouraging a Suntan

If you are willing to brave the wrinkles in later life in exchange for the glorious suntan of today, there is a great way to encourage your suntan while keeping your skin from becoming sunburned. It's a skin preparation used by farmers long, long ago in their efforts to avoid becoming sunburned. Tanned skin does not burn so they wanted their 'farmer's tan'.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Vinegar
  • Water
  • Small Spray Bottle
  1. Step 1

Purchase a new spray bottle (dollar stores are a good place to find one cheaply) or clean out one you may have around the house from some other purpose, just be certain it is very clean. Fill spray bottle with 1 part white vinegar per 2 parts water.

  2. Step 2

In early spring, before sunbathing season, bathe your skin with the vinegar and water mixture. Spray on and allow it to soak into your skin before rinsing off. Applying it before a shower is ideal. Smelling like vinegar isn't too desirable. ;-)

  3. Step 3

Apply the mixture as you would sun tan lotion before going outside all through the spring/summer seasons. Allow to dry and then apply your normal suntan lotion to protect your skin from adverse affects of the sun.

Tips & Warnings
  • This is not a replacement for suntan lotion with proper SPF protection.
  • Do not use on children. Children should always be given at least 30-45 SPF lotion to avoid all damaging effects of the sun.
