The mint in a mojito freshens your breath.

Originating in Cuba, a mojito is a cool, refreshing drink that is hugely popular in the summertime in the U.S. The mint leaves and lime juice create a yummy taste and aroma. Although there are several variations on the traditional mojito, it is hard to improve on the original. You can make this drink at home. It makes a great party drink and is relatively inexpensive to make, so surprise your guests with trendy mojitos at your next get-together.

Instructions

Choose a tall glass. Use a muddler to crush 3 drops bitters, 3 lime quarters and 6 or 7 mint leaves in the bottom of the glass. Bitters are a drink flavoring that is either bitter or bittersweet. They are generally strong and intended to be used a few drops at a time. You can find a muddler and bitters at most liquor stores.

    • 2

After you've muddled the mint leaves, bitters and lime quarters thoroughly, fill the glass with crushed ice. Add 2 ounces of light rum.

    • 3

Fill the glass with sugar cane juice to within 2 inches of the rim. Pour in an inch of club soda. Cover with another glass, making sure it is on tight, and shake the drink for about 10 seconds.

    • 4

Garnish the drink with a lime wedge and mint leaf. Serve with a straw.
