Step 1
Put your hands on your waist, then slide them down about an inch or two (two if you’re tall). Make sure the four fingers are in the front, and the thumb is in the back. You'll improve singing once you develop this area as a point of breath.
-
Step 2
Slightly squeeze with your hands. This singing training technique is going to use resistance to improve singing and vocal power.
-
Step 3
Take a deep breath from low in the diaphragm -- the kind of breath that expands your lower body, while continuing to slightly squeeze as though you’re trying to push your diaphragm back in.
-
Step 4
Hold the squeeze. Sing “e-e-e-e-e” at the lowest pitch you’re comfortable with for 5 to 20 seconds while at the same time, using your lower body to push your squeezing fingers and thumb out against the squeeze that you’re making.
-
Step 5
While relaxing a bit between sessions, continue your singing training this way by singing higher and higher in your comfort zone, while changing the vowel sounds each time you go up. In other words, once you're done with e-e-e-e-e, rest, reposition your hands, squeeze, breathe, then sing eh-eh-eh-eh, rest, then a-a-a-a-a-a, rest, then ah-ah-ah-ah, rest, then o-o-o-o-o-o, rest, then oh-oh-oh-oh, rest, then uh-uh-uh-uh.
-
Step 6
Concentrate on “pushing out the squeeze” while you’re doing this singing training method. That’s the most important part of this exercise to improve singing. These at-home voice lessons will strengthen your voice over time, just like a regular exercise routine.
-
Step 7
After a few weeks of this singing training technique, instead of holding a single pitch each time, sing your vowel sounds to the melody of a song. In other words, put your hands on the right area, squeeze, take a deep breath, and sing e-e-e-e-e-e to the melody of the national anthem for 5 to 20 seconds
