I love to draw and sketch in my free time, but I sometimes have no idea what to draw. I'll sit there with my pencil at hand, yet blankly staring at my paper. It's almost like writer's block for artists, I suppose. Here's one way to know what to draw in a time like this...

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • paper
  • your drawing tool (pen, pencil, paintbrush, marker..)
  • your list
  1. Step 1

First, you'll need to make your self a list. Your list will have three parts: nouns, adjectives, and verbs. Go ahead and make a column for each and number from one to twenty. Then begin listing words that fit into each section. Example: (1)Nouns (object words): chair, people, radio, garbage disposal. (2)Adjectives (describing words): cold, wet, slimy, sharp. (3) Verbs (action words): eating, smelling, running, kicking. You can have people help you think of words, too.

  2. Step 2

Once you have your list your basically ready to start drawing. Just grab whatever your drawing with and pick a number from each part of your list. You can have someone else call out random numbers, point to an item on the list without looking, or just come up with random numbers on your own. Either way, get three items from off of your list.

  3. Step 3

Now, begin drawing whatever it is that your numbers have come up with. For example if my words were radio, slimy, and kicking. Then I would draw a slimy radio kicking something. Usually once you get started sketching you can come up with all sorts of other things to add to your drawing. Just have fun sketching whatever it is that you imagine, and have fun!
