How to Keep Your Cat from Peeing Up the House
Especially in a multi-cat household, from time to time you'll have problems with your cats not using the litterbox like they should. This can be a very aggravating problem, to say the least! But there are a few simple steps you can follow to solve your problems!
Things You'll Need
- Extra litter box
- Fresh cat litter
- Cleaning supplies
- Vinegar or clorox
- Patience and love

If your cats used to use their litterbox properly, and they are now peeing around the house instead, you have one of two problems: Physical, or Emotional. Your first step is to check for physical problems, so that's a trip to the vets. If you know which cat is misbehaving, take that one; if you're not sure, then take them all in for a checkup. A lot of peeing is a sign of kidney disease, and that is not something you want to play around with. Special diet, treatment, and meds can help, and you need to start that as early as possible.

Once you've ruled out physical problems, you need to check the emotional environment, find the problem, and correct it. What has changed in your household - do you have a new baby? a lot of visitors lately? new carpet or new furniture? are you stressed? These - and many other - changes can make your cats upset. They are very sensitive to your moods and to the mood of the house. Calm is good, so chill! Give the cats extra love, extra attention, extra pats.

In addition to physical health and emotional well-being, you also need to pay attention to the environment. If your cat is peeing in a particular place, put an extra litter box there. Keep all the litter boxes clean and fresh on a daily basis. Anywhere they have peed, clean thoroughly with clorox or vinegar to get the smell away. As long as they smell it, they will continue to pee there. And, be ruthless - whatever they have peed on, throw away.

Well written article with very useful ideas. So far my cat hasn't had this issue, but it's wise to learn what to do if situations such as those in your article arise. -

From experience, I know how strong that cat pee smell is. I didn't know that vinegar or bleach would work to get it out though, thanks! -
