Things You'll Need:
- Invitations
- Decorations
- Food
- Games
- favors
-
Step 1
Choose a date and time to have your party. Then you will need to send out invitations. You can purchase St. Patrick's Day themed invitations from a card store. If you prefer, you can print invites from your computer on green paper using Saint Patrick's day clipart or you can make your own by cutting shamrock shapes from green cardstock paper. You can also do e-vites if you know the email addresses of the guests you will invite. Be sure to indicate the date and time and how to rsvp. And don't forget to include that wearing green is a must!
-
Step 2
Decorating for this party is fairly easy. Green balloons, streamers, paper shamrocks, green tablecloths and Saint Patrick's themed paper goods can be found at dollar stores or party good stores.
-
Step 3
When your guests arrive, give them each a plastic leprechaun hat to wear. You can buy these in any dollar store, craft store or party goods store around Saint Patrick's Day.
-
Step 4
For your menu you may want to make traditional corned beef and cabbage, which will be good for serving any adults who may attend. For the kids, however, you might want to try kids foods, like chicken nuggets and macaroni and cheese. The macaroni and cheese can be turned green with food coloring during cooking. Other green food ideas for kids include green gelatin, green veggies with spinach dip, fruit salad made of green grapes, kiwis and honeydew melons and mint flavored ice cream. Another idea is to serve grilled cheese or chicken quesadillas, cut into shamrock shapes (you can use a shamrock cookie cutter for this).Green frosted cake, cupcakes or cookies all work well, too.
-
Step 5
When serving drinks, you may want to make green beer for the adults. (See how to make green beer in the resources below.) How about a green ale for the kids as well? Ginger ale can be turned green with food coloring. You can also use lemonade or limeade, with added food coloring to make it as green as you like. Mint ice cream milkshakes serve as shamrock shakes for all to enjoy.
-
Step 6
Add some fun games for the kids to play. A scavenger hunt is a fun idea. Make a few little bags filled with gold wrapped chocolate coins and hide them around the house. Then write some clues to lead the kids to find them. Another fun idea is a pot of gold coin toss. You can purchase a plastic pot from a party goods store or use any pot you have. Have the kids toss the gold wrapped coins into the pot and score one point for each one they get in. You will need prizes for each kid, so no one feels left out, so try shopping at the dollar store for inexpensive little gifts.
-
Step 7
You may want to send your guests home with favors. They can take home the hat you gave them along with the bags of gold chocolate coins. If you want to make some little pots of gold ahead of time, you can purchase miniature pots to fill with the gold wrapped chocolate coins or butterscotch candies at a dollar store or craft store. Another item found in most craft stores this time of year is a miniature flower pot in which to grow shamrocks. All the child has to do is water it and in a couple of weeks they will sprout. A miniature box of Lucky Charms cereal is another cute favor idea.
