Tired of your toddler losing her mittens in the snow or crying because she got snow down her mittens and up the sleeves of her snowsuit? Make her mitten gaiters. They keep the snow out, keep the mittens on and they're easy to make as 1-2-3.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pair of anklet athletic socks
  • Pair of scissors
  1. Step 1

Take a pair of anklet athletic socks, the kind that just come to the ankle bone over the tops of your sneakers (not crew socks).

  2. Step 2

With a pair of scissors snip the toes off the socks. Don't make the cut too large -- just cut a sliver off the toes. The whole will stretch.

  3. Step 3

Once you have your toddler in her snowsuit and have her mittens on, slip the mitten gaiter over her hand and up her arm, making sure the heel of the sock/gaiter is at the child's elbow and leaving only part of her mitten-covered hands exposed. This will help keep snow out of her wrists, will help keep mittens on and will also help keep her arms and hands warm.

Tips & Warnings
  • Buy several pairs of the anklets when you find them. They're inexpensive, and if you lose one of the mitten gaiters, just snip the toe out of another anklet and voila! You have another gaiter.
