How to Get a Sponsor for your Recreational Softball Team

If you are organizing a recreational softball team and are trying to cover the costs (uniforms, entry fees, etc.), you need to find a sponsor, or backer, for your team.

These sponsorships can come from many places, but most come from local bars/restaurants and small businesses.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the amount of money you will need for the season, detailing when you need it and what you need it for.

    • 2

Make a list of local bars, restaurants, and small businesses around the area you will be playing. Note that your sponsors will expect you to patronize their establishment on a regular basis, so try to include companies and establishments that you and your teammates already frequent and would enjoy going to.

    • 3

Write a form letter that outlines the necessary amount of money it takes to play, the size of your team, the league you are playing in, and any other details about your team that should be included.

    • 4

Call each location, asking for the owner or general manager (they typically make this decision), and ask if they would be interested in sponsoring a community softball team for the upcoming season. If they are interested, set-up a meeting with them to discuss the sponsorship!

    • 5

When meeting with them, make sure to bring your letter, roster, league information, and anything else you can think of. Be flexible when discussing the sponsorship and offer creative fundraiser ideas(i.e. team dinner) to help with the costs. Once they agree to sponsor you, make sure to be there as much as possible to support their business!

Tips & Warnings

  • Show some excitement when talking with potential sponsors.

  • Bring a few members of the team when you meet with interested parties to show your team's commitment.
