Backside Boardslide On a Snowboard

Backside boardslides are not that hard as long as you can ride well. When doing a backside boardslide you are actually facing the bottom of the mountain.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Advanced level of snowboarding
  • Snowboard set up
  • Box/rail
  1. Step 1

I suggest starting out on fun box or ledge box.
    Definitions:
Fun box is a structure in the park about 6 feet wide by 10-20 feet long. It will have a plexiglass top sheet and a metal under structure. should be level with the snow or raised a couple inches above.
Ledge box is normally a raised structure structure in the park that is about 1 foot-2 feet wide. I can be set in the snow but is normally anywhere from 6 inches to a few feet above the ground. A lot of times there will also be a small gap between the ramp and box.

  2. Step 2

Once you find the feature you want to use stop short of it. Stop just short enough of it so that you have enough speed to get onto the feature and all the way across it. Start your approach towards the box, scrubbing off any unneeded speed. Approach the box so that it is just slightly on your toe side.

  3. Step 3

To get up onto the box you want to make sure you ollie high enough so that your board clears the lip of the box. otherwise you will clip the box. turn your board and body 45 degrees so that you are now facing down hill. if using a fun box you want to land with your weight even on both feet. Your board will want to be flat, with your weight ever so slightly forward. If you are using a ledge box do the same thing but make sure that your board is hitting right between the bindings.

  4. Step 4

Continue your grind making small adjustments as needed. To exit you are going to want to hop off the end of the box, turn your hips and shoulders so your board is pointing back towards the bottom of the hill. Land with your board flat and your weight even then ride away.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep a little bit of weight on your toes to prevent your feet from sliding out.
  • Start small if you don't you will get hurt.
  • Wear a helmet I know this sound lame but its worth it. You can't ride if your dead. R.I.P. Ryan L.
