How to Install Wordpress on Your GoDaddy Hosting Account

So, you want to start a blog. You've purchased a domain name for your latest niche blogging venture. And you've purchased a hosting plan from GoDaddy.com. Now what?

Well, you'll need to actually start blogging! To do that, you'll need to select a blogging platform. Many bloggers are picking Wordpress for a blog platform since it allows for a great deal of customization and Wordpress makes it easy to monetize a blog, turning a pet project into a niche blog that earns revenue!

The only downside to using Wordpress is that many new bloggers have a hard time installing Wordpress and getting started. But fortunately, once Wordpress is installed, this blog platform is easy to use; from a technical standpoint, the process of writing a blog entry and managing a Wordpress blog is actually very similar to lots of other blogging websites, like Today.com.

The key is to use GoDaddy.com's one-click installation tool for Wordpress. It doesn't install Wordpress onto your computer, but onto your hosting account. This means you can use Wordpress to post to your new niche blog from any computer; no software installation on your computer is required! Keep reading to learn how to install a Wordpress blog onto your new domain name.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you purchased and registered a domain through another company, you'll need to transfer your domain to GoDaddy in order to purchase hosting and to install the Wordpress blogging platform.

  • You can create a Wordpress blog section to an existing website; to create a Wordpress blog component for an existing website, use "domainname.com/wordpress" (default) as the installation location.

  • If your domain name will be used solely for blogging (with no other component), you will want to install Wordpress in the root directory, which is the main part of the website. So you'll want to delete the field that's automatically filled in during the Wordpress installation process to appear like this: "domainname.com/wordpress" - you will see a note about how you can leave the field blank to install Wordpress in the root directory.

  • You will need an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) program like Fetch if you want to upload Wordpress plug-ins or additional Wordpress page templates.

Thanks. This may seem like something a person could do without instructions, but GoDaddy has a very difficult to navigate website (though it's getting better). Even after doing this several times, I still need to go back to the instructions sometimes.
