Your child will enjoy watching their shamrock come to life with a little help from you and mother nature. Begin a couple weeks before St. Patrick's Day if you want a full-grown shamrock in time for the holiday.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • green kitchen sponge (new)
  • alfalfa or grass seed
  • pie tin or dish
  • water
  1. Step 1

Cut a new green colored kitchen sponge into the shape of a shamrock. Generously soak the sponge in water, then gently squeeze out the excess liquid.

  2. Step 2

Place the sponge on a pie tin or wide dish. Sprinkle alfalfa seed or grass seed over the entire sponge.

  3. Step 3

Keep the sponge moist with daily watering by pouring water all around the sponge; not on top. (When my kids 'grew' their shamrocks, we covered the sponge every night with saran wrap until they sprouted) During the daylight hours keep the sponge in a sunny area.

  4. Step 4

Within a few days the seeds will begin to sprout then grow into a shamrock just in time for St. Patrick's Day!
