How to Create a Rainbow in Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop has amazing capabilities to create a wide range of effects. This is why it is used by graphics artists all over the world. This tutorial will show you how to create a simple but impressive rainbow effect using only Photoshop.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

    Open a new document in Photoshop. Make it whatever size you want. For this example, we will be using 500x500px.

    Use the Pen tool, the Add Points tool, and the Convert Points tool to create the curve of the rainbow.

    Click on the Brush Tool, and make the diameter about 63. Then go to Windows and click on Brushes. Change the Control to Fade, and set it to 100. Change the Minimum Diameter to 30%.

    Go to the Layers Panel, and create a new layer. Change the Foreground Color to Red. Click on the Paths Tab.

    Right click on the listed path, and click Stroke Path. In the box that pops up, make sure Brush is selected, and click OK. You should now have a nice red streak for the top of your rainbow. Use the Move tool and the arrow keys on your keyboard to nudge the red streak a bit to the left. Exactly how far will depend on how wide you want your rainbow to be.

    Change the Foreground color to orange. Add a new layer. Repeat step 5. Continue this process until you have created all the colors of your rainbow, and overlapped them. The sequence of colors used in this tutorial are, red, orange, yellow, green, blue.

    Right click on the listed path, and click Delete Path. And there you have it, a rainbow.
