Things You'll Need:
- A table
- A sewing machine
- An iron
- An ironing board
- 1-2 yards of satin fabric
- 1-½ yards (or more) of lace trimming
- Scissors
- A spool of thread to match the fabric
- A spool of thread to match the lace trimming
- A box of straight pins
- A tape measure
-
Step 1
Using your tape measure, measure your bust first, and then your hips. Take the larger of the two measurements, add five inches to it and make note of it. (This is the measurement you will use when you cut out your nightgown.)
-
Step 2
Measure from under your arm to your knee, and make note of this measurement.
-
Step 3
Lay your fabric down on the table and measure across, using the first measurement you made note of, and mark it with a straight pin.
-
Step 4
Make a vertical cut in the fabric, at the point of the straight pin.
-
Step 5
Remove the straight pin.
-
Step 6
Measure the cut piece of fabric vertically, and put a straight pin in the fabric horizontally, at the point of the second measurement you made note of.
-
Step 7
Cut across the fabric, following the line where the straight pin was inserted.
-
Step 8
Remove the straight pin.
-
Step 9
Roll the top edge of the fabric over twice (about ¼ of an inch each time and to the wrong side), and stitch across and close to the edge.
-
Step 10
Pin the trimming to the top edge of the fabric (right side), starting at one end of the fabric and ending at the opposite end. Cut trimming once you reach the end.
-
Step 11
Sew the trimming to the fabric, using the matching thread.
-
Step 12
Make a hem at the bottom of the nightgown, rolling the bottom edge of the fabric over twice (about ¼ of an inch each time), and stitch close to the edge.
-
Step 13
Using your tape measure, measure the distance from the bottom of your shoulder blade, over your shoulder and to 1 inch past your underarm. Use this measurement to cut out two 1-inch wide strips of fabric.
-
Step 14
Turn the edges of each strip of fabric in towards the wrong side of the fabric (lengthwise) and iron them down, then fold the fabric in half (lengthwise) and iron once again.
-
Step 15
Stitch each strip of fabric close to the edge to make two straps for your nightgown.
-
Step 16
Slip the nightgown on, and pin the straps to your nightgown, adjusting the straps accordingly.
-
Step 17
Sew the straps to the nightgown.

on 3/10/2009 Yes, I would definitely feel sexier in lingerie that I had made following your instructions BUT I wouldn't allow my husband to mess it up! lol! Thanks for another great idea.
