Step 1
First you will need to make contact with the CASA program in your area. You can do this by looking in your local phone book for a CASA listing.
-
Step 2
If you do not find a listing for CASA you can visit the national CASA website. That website is listed in the resources section of this article.
-
Step 3
Once at the site you can click on the link that says find a CASA program near you.
-
Step 4
This will guide you to a local CASA program.
-
Step 5
Once you make contact with your local CASA there will be an intensive training process. You will complete background checks and an interview to ensure that you are safe for the children to be around. You will also complete a training program to learn about the court system and what types of issues the children you will be helping are facing.
-
Step 6
It is likely that you will be working with children that have experienced abuse and neglect. You will receive training about how best to help the children process their emotions. You will be trained on how to address the court and represent the children in the most appropriate way possible.
-
Step 7
Once you have completed the training process you will be sworn in by the chief judge in your county as an official CASA volunteer. You will then be assigned a case and a child to help!
