Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Phone
  1. Step 1

If you witness or suspect that a child is being abused or neglected in the state of Kansas you can easily make an anonymous report of your concerns to the Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services.

  2. Step 2

First you need to call SRS on their toll free child abuse reporting number. That number is 1-800-922-5330.

  3. Step 3

The phone will be answered by a trained professional that can take your report.

  4. Step 4

You will be asked a variety of questions regarding the child and your concerns. You will be asked for the child's name, date of birth, social security number, where they attend school, and if they have any disabilities.

  5. Step 5

You will also be asked a variety of questions about the child's parents. You will be asked for their names, address, date of birth, social security number, and place of employment.

  6. Step 6

You will be asked to describe in detail any concerns you may have. You will be asked to describe where and when you witnessed these events.

  7. Step 7

It is important that you try to provide as much information as possible to the staff. But remember that if you don't have all the information it is okay. You should still call in the report. Just because you don't know a social security number or a place of employment doesn't mean you shouldn't call. SRS has trained staff to investigate these reports. They can find all the information they need even if you alone can't provide it.

  8. Step 8

You will be asked if you want to make the report anonymously or if you would like to leave your name and phone number if the worker assigned the case has any questions. This is completely up to you. All reports will be investigated regardless of if you leave your name or not.

  9. Step 9

When you hang up the phone celebrate that you took a great step in helping to protect a child!
