Proofread Your Article or Blog

Nothing reduces your credibility and the entertainment value of your article or blog like misspellings and poor grammar. These quick tips will help you proofread anything that you write so that it looks professional and authoritative.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1
    go slowly and concentrate

Spell Check is a fantastic tool for writers. However, it won't catch an error if you've accidentally typed a word that is spelled correctly. For example, if you type "seen" instead of "scene". Before you click "publish", read your article slowly and determine if the words make sense.

  2. Step 2
    read it backwards

Another proofreading trick is to read your article or blog backwards. Sometimes when you read normally, your brain will automatically correct errors or recognize the wrong word as being correct. Start at the end of each sentence and read backwards to the beginning. Errors will be more apparent.

  3. Step 3
    use Spell Check

Sometimes if I'm not sure how a word is spelled or I find that I'm about to repeat a word, I'll open up a blank Word document and type the word. If it's misspelled, MS Word will underline it in red. Right click on the word and Spell Check will give the correct spelling. You can also find a different word with similar meaning by using the Thesaurus tool in MS Word.

Tips & Warnings
  • Ask a friend to proofread. A second set of eyes never hurts.
  • Keep a dictionary nearby
  • Always click on Spell Check

on 7/21/2009 This is a wonderful post. My advise is not to count on MS Word spell checker or any software. Just get someone else to look at your work.
