How to Sew a Window Seat Cushion
You just built your window seat and need a nice cushion to make it comfy. You have experience with a sewing machine or knows someone who does. Follow the steps to make a comfy seat custom made to fit your unique window seat.... Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Sewing machine
- something for inside (batting, foam form or foam chips)
- thread
- Yarn and yarn needle
- large buttons if desired
- Zipper the length of one end if a removable cover is desired.
Instructions

1
Measure window seat and add 1/2 inch to allow for a seam. Add 2-3 inches if a very fully stuffed look is desired. This will be the measurements you take to the fabric store to find your fabric. The sales people should be able to help convert your measurements into the amount of fabric you need (get 1/2 to 3/4 of a yard more or of a contrasting fabric to make a couple of throw pillows)

2
Purchase the fabric you need. Type and design is up to you. Poly/cotton has the largest choices available but is not a very sturdy fabric. If the cushion will get a lot of use invest in a heavy duck cloth/canvas or upholstery fabric or a brocade.

3
Once you have the fabric cut to the desired size and shape (possibly make a pattern from newspaper so if your decor changes the cushion can be changed to match).
-
4
Sew 3 sides of the cushion and turn right side out. If using a zipper and foam insert add zipper if desired.
-
5
If no zipper is installed, add stuffing and sew open end shut.
Distribute stuffing evenly and using yarn needle thread yarn thru all layers and tie off (quilting technique). Place a yarn knot approx every 6-8 inches. If desired add a large button to every yarn knot.
