This describes how to hang widow treatments when your window has trim. There are a few options here and I will discuss two of them.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tape Measure
  • Pencil
  • Drill
  • Screw Driver
  • Window treatment/hardware
  1. Step 1

Hanging your window treatments on outside of the trim. If you wish to inside mount your window treatments skip to step 7.

  2. Step 2

First pick a height for your window treatments. I suggest right at the top of your window frame but being a little higher so that the window treatments cover the top of the window frame trim.

  3. Step 3

Next measure the width of your window to make sure you have the correct size window treatments. I recommend measuring out about an inch from each side of the trim of the window frame.

  4. Step 4

Mark your measurement locations and place your hardware at the locations mark the location for the hole on one side. Now with a level mark the hole for the hardware on the other side ensuring the hole are level.

  5. Step 5

Now you can pre-drill the holes. This is not always necessary but it a good practice because if you do not have a stud to anchor the hardware to then you will want to use the anchor inserts that come with the hardware which will require you to drill bigger holes.

  6. Step 6

Now you can mount your hardware and finish your window treatments.

  7. Step 7

If you wish to inside mount a window treatment such as faux wood blinds you will want to start here. Notice I do not have steps for actually mounting on your window trim as I do not recommend this.

  8. Step 8

First you will want to measure the inside width of the window frame and re measure to make sure. When measuring you will want to measure the top and bottom of the window frame from the location that you will be mounting the hardware too, this is not the decorative framing it is the wood inside of this. The reason we measure the top and bottom for inside mounting is that windows are not always square and often times get wider or narrower from top to bottom

  9. Step 9

Once you have your measurements you will need to get your blinds cut. I recommend taking an additional ¼ inch of for the mounting hardware to fit as well. Make sure you ask if someone is cutting for you to make sure they are not taking thing into account already.

  10. Step 10

Mark your holes for your hardware on one side and with a level mark your hole on the other side ensuring they are level.

  11. Step 11

Pre-drill your holes and then fasten your hardware and hang your blinds.
Note: When buying the blinds do not worry about length the can always be shortened the main concern is the width.
