Step 1
Remember that dry skin is generally a reaction of your body as a sign of dehydration. So drink lots of clear liquids like water and juices to help skin stay hydrated while maintaining its elasticity. The simple act of intaking fluids can help prevent dry skin from ever occurring. However, keep in mind fluids like soft drinks have no real benefit in terms of hydration so make healthier choices as mentioned above.

Step 2
Spend a few extra dollars and purchase a small humidifier for your home. These devices are relatively inexpensive and can bring dramatic differences for your skin. They basically work by converting water to a steam or vapor form which is emitted into the air, making the room more humid, thus helping to keep your skin refreshed. They help counteract the heat and dry air that furnaces release. It is best to keep the humidifier in the rooms where you spend the most time, such as in your bedroom while sleeping or in the family tv area.

Step 3
Use quality skin conditioning prouducts that are designed to keep skin moisturized. Products containing aloe are especially effective. Remember to put lotion on after bathing, when your pores are open and will absorb the moisturizer. Also, keep small lotions in your car, desk, purse, etc and reapply after extended periods of time and after washing hands.

Step 4
Keep in mind that although the visible skin on your body is dry you also need to moisturize the skin in your scalp. Make sure to use a good conditioner and massage throughly into scalp and hair follicles before rinsing.
-
Step 5
When showering, avoid using washclothes on areas prone to dry skin such as the legs and face. Instead, cleanse your body with a rich lather of soap/body wash with your hands. THis helps reduce the liklihood that you will keep the areas aggravated and inflammed from using abrasive materials in washing.

Step 6
Try to avoid exposing your skin to heat elements like vents. Sit further away from heat vents and such to avoid overdrying for the air they emit.
