Step 1
Clean the bulbs by gently brushing off excess dirt. Refrain from washing the plant bulbs, as the extra moisture could cause them to rot while in storage.

Layer the bulbs in a cardboard box with an open top. Newspaper, packing peanuts, or peat moss can be used as a liner between the layers of bulbs. Ventilation is crucial. Do not store bulbs in a sealed container or plastic bag. Make sure that the bulbs are not touching one another.

Place the box in a cool, dry place in your house. Be sure that they are away from heat sources and direct sunlight. Bulbs should never be stored in freezing temperatures.

Periodically check on the bulbs. Every few weeks, go through the box and throw out any bulbs that have become soft and mushy.
