Things You'll Need:
- big channel lock
- 1 - bag of spec mortar mix
- finish cement trowel
- silicone
- caulking gun
- hack saw
- 5 lbs 15/8" screws
- screw gun
- skill saw
- 2 - 2 x 4 x 8'
- 5 lbs coated framing nails
- hammer
- stud finder
-
Step 1
First you need to bring your drain to the location of the drain on your new shower pan, cut the dry wall 1 inch higher then the shower pan and take out the dry wall, slide the shower pan drain from the top into the shower pan drain hole , from underneath the shower pan slide the rubber seal gasket over, and onto the drain piece, next put in the paper or plastic washer then tighten the nut with your big channel lock. Put the tub in place mark the drain line and cut it. Remember to leave enough drain pipe for the shower pan's drain rubber seal and the seal' s lock nut.
-
Step 2
Mix some of the spec mix cement and make a circle 12" around the drain, drop the shower pan down, insert the drain' s rubber seal and tighten it. Now secure the shower pan to the studs with the screws, drive the screws through the top lip that run along any side of the shower pan suppose to attach to the wall. Patch the dry wall back.
-
Step 3
The most important about a handicap shower is the ramp to get in and hand rails. Put a 2 x 4 on its edge and mark the end of your new ramp to the shower, tape and mask off the rest of the floor. Now mix up the spec mix cement and make you a ramp for the room you have available, just to be sure you leave enough space to install your finish floor even if its tile or vinyl, it should finish even with the top edge of the shower pan.
-
Step 4
Forty five minutes to one hour later the cement start to set then you can take off the piece of 2 x 4. With your trowel try to float and form the top edge and make the top flat and level, sloping down to the existing floor. As soon as the bottom of the ramp hit the floor you can stop and clean off the excess cement, clean a straight line 90 degree to the side to the edge of your new ramp. Now is ready to put the finishing floor of your chosen style. tile, vinyl or carpet.
-
Step 5
When you ready to install the hand rail, use your stud finder and find the studs and mark them, you can get a hand rail to fit that size. Some time you have to install an extra 2 x 4 by the existing studs to be wide enough to cover the flat plate on the end of the hand rail. If that's the case you cut a long hole 6" wide on the drywall, to the side of the 2 x 4 that need to build up to match the flat base from the hand rail, and the screw from the handle bar will hit wood.

on 7/12/2009 you seem to have no clue on how to do a proper handicap shower.
I would do a little research on proper tile setting before you give out such slow and erroneous info.
