Having trouble getting over the water hazard or staying on that pitched green? Always wonder how the pros spin the ball back into the hole? With practice and the right shot, you can to get that backspin. Follow the steps in this article to learn how to get that backspin.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The instructions here will be for the right hand golfer, left hand golfers will do the opposite. You will want to use your lob wedge for this shot, which will be 60 degrees or higher. However a sand wedge could be used but you will have a little less backspin. Also the softer the ball the more backspin you will obtain.

  2. Step 2

When you set up you will want a little wider stance and you will want to aim left of your target. Open your club face up (Rotate your club to the right bringing the toe of the club just behind the heel.). This will make your club appear a little flatter. Opening your club face will allow the club to get under the ball and put the backspin on it.

  3. Step 3

Your ball will fly higher then normal and a little shorter. When you first start you might not have much backspin, but after more and more practice you will notice your balls spinning back on the green much faster. Obtaining backspin will help you get to that pin right behind a bunker or on a pitched green.

Tips & Warnings
  • Open your club face and aim your feet slightly left.
