1. Remove temporary Internet files. The Internet will fill your computer with temporary Internet files which help you surf websites you visit frequently, but they also slow down your computer. Clearing out your temporary Internet files once a week can help speed up your computer and keep old website information off your computer. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools," "Internet Options" and "Delete Temporary Internet Files."

2. Delete cookies. Clearing or deleting your cookies will also help speed up performance. Go to your Internet Explorer and select "Tools" and "Internet Options." Select "Delete Cookies."

3. Install antivirus protection. Antivirus software protects your computer from viruses, trojans other malicious software that may be placed on your computer from any place on the Internet. These viruses can slow down your computer considerably. If you do use antivirus software, make sure the software is up-to-date and run scans at least once per week to ensure optimal performance. Run a scan while you are away from the computer, so the scan doesn't interrupt your work.
