Make Homemade Wine from Grapes
Make Homemade Wine from Grapes

This article will teach you how to make homemade wine.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • bottles
  • grapes
  • yeast
  • sugar
  • fermentation barrel
  • corks
  • corking gun
  1. Step 1

Buy grapes.6 lb of grapes will make 2 bottles of wine.

  2. Step 2

Crush the grapes, or use a juicer to take the juice out of the grapes.Dont' throw away the skins if you are making red or rose wine, instead put them in the juice. The tannin in the skins help the wine ferment better.

  3. Step 3

If you live in a warmer climate (for example California), don't add any sugar to the grape juice, but in less sunny climates, add 1 pound of sugar to every 2 gallon of juice.

  4. Step 4

Let the grape juice ferment in bottles or in a vat.You can add some yeast culture in it,if you have some.
To add yeast culture, you first need to warm the juice to 75 degrees F, then add the yeast.Don't let the temperature rise above 80 degrees because the yeast will become inactive.

  5. Step 5

After a few days, when the first fermentation stopped, pour the juice in a barrel or a carboy,so that it fills it completely (don't let any air space above it).Put the barrel or the carboy in a cool room/space.

  6. Step 6

Let the wine sit quietly a month, or two,and then you can begin to bottle the wine.Bottles need to be clean and sterilised;store bottles with wine on the side, in a dark and cool room (a basement or cellar).
