Jamaican Beet Juice
Jamaican Beet Juice

As a kid, growing up in Jamaica was fun. I remember some of the food and drinks that I love. Here is one of my favorites ... Jamaican Beet Juice.

A quick fyi, back in the day as kids in Jamaica we had small amounts of alcohol mixed with some of our beverages, please do not use any alcohol if you intend to serve children... Enjoy!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Beets(Two to Four)
  • Blender
  • One Cup Of Rum(For kids, no rum please)
  • Two cups of sugar
  • Two cups of water
  • One Nutmeg
  • Strainer
  • Time(2 1/2 to 3 weeks)

To start off, I remember my mom used to have me wash the beets because we grew them in our yard. So to start make sure you wash the beets thoroughly.

Also, we used to mix alcohol with some of our drinks back then. I do not advise this if you will serve this to minors.

With your blender, blend the beets. I would set the blender to grate. You will have to boil the beets roughly twenty five minutes. Believe it or not my mom used the left over beets for her plants.

After you're finished boiling the beets, you will use your strainer. Pour the liquid through the strainer into a pitcher or jug.

Grater half of the nutmeg and sprinkle in the drink then stir.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can drink this after you let it chill
  • For the most authentic taste, leave it in bottle for a couple weeks
  • I would not advise this drink for kids unless you omit the rum
  • You will get a different taste without the rum
