Create funky, beaded jewelry straight out of the magazines--the old magazines piling up at your home, that is.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Magazine pages or other scrap paper Scissors Tacky glue Toothpicks or drinking straws

    Make Paper Beads

  1. Step 1

Cut triangular strips of colorful magazine pages or other types of paper scraps. Experiment with width and length. Each strip will be turned into a bead that is as wide as the strip of paper, so start with a width of about 1/2 inch to 1 inch. The thickness of the bead depends on the length of the paper strip.

  2. Step 2

To make each bead, use a small amount of glue on the back side of the paper strip. Starting with the wider end of the strip, roll it snugly around a toothpick or drinking straw (depending on how thick you want the bead to be).

  3. Step 3

Use a spot of glue to tack down the end of the paper bead. Use your finger to spread the excess glue over the bead; it will dry clear and act as a sealant. Slide the bead off the toothpick or drinking straw and let dry.

  4. Step 4

Use your paper beads alone or in conjunction with store-bought beads to make colorful necklaces and bracelets. Other uses include beaded curtains or wall art.
