Choose a Good Pet sitter for Your Cat

When you have to leave your house because you want to take a trip, for example, and you have a cat, you need to decide who is going to take care of your cat. This article will give you some hints on how you can chose a good pet sitter, and make sure he does his job.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • internet
  • patience
  1. Step 1

Search for a pet sitter on websites such care.com, or sitter.com.You can find a lot of people who genuinely love cats and provide pet sitting in their spare time. They also have lower fees than the professional pet sitters (who own a bussiness).Hiring a professional pet sitter doesn't guarantee that that person indeed loves cats.

  2. Step 2

Once you chose 3-4 people who might be what you are looking for, call them and ask them to come to your house for an interview, and of course, to meet your cat. This is a very important step, because this way you can make sure that your cat likes the pet sitter, and you can see for yourself that the pet sitter is enjoying your cat company. Don't hire a person that you feel that he doesn't genuinely love pets.

  3. Step 3

Prepare a short interview for the petsitter. Here is a list of questions that you can use: http://petsitters.sittercity.com/article/parent_interview.html
If the first thing that a pet sitter does when he comes to your home is not asking to see your cat, pet him and talk to him, don't hire that person.

  4. Step 4

Finally you chose one pet sitter to take care of your cat, checked his references and everything seems to be ok. To be sure that he does his job and spends the time that you agreed with your pet, consider installing a home surveillance system. A simple surveillance system is not so expensive (200-300 dollars) but it can give you the peace of mind that you need.
