This is from my husbands great grandmothers recipe box. I am told that she would make this in huge batches to give to neighbors weekly and this is her shortened version that she came up with due to the amount of recipe requests that she received. My family loves this for any occasion but I really like it with a hot cup of mint tea! Enjoy!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 cup nuts, chopped
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup oil
  • 1 cup milk 1 1/3 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  1. Step 1

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, nuts, sugar, cinnamon and oil until light and crumbly. Reserve 1 cup of this mixture for the topping.

  2. Step 2

Sour the milk by adding the vinegar to it. Don't leave this step out as it will just not taste right.

  3. Step 3

Add the sour milk, beaten egg, salt and baking soda to the flour mixture....combine this well.

  4. Step 4

Pour into a greased and floured 13 X 9 baking pan.

  5. Step 5

Sprinkle the reserved topping on top and bake for 30 to 35 minutes in an oven pre-heated to 350 degrees. A toothpick inserted into center that comes out clean means it is done.
