How to Decorate a Small Room

A small room can be hard enough to live in, let alone decorate! There are some things you can do to make this room a bit more tolerable.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The first thing you can do to decorate your small room is to draw a person's eye to something in the room. This is called a focal point. Hang a beautiful picture on the wall that faces the entrance door.

  2. Step 2

Light colors make space seem larger, so painting your ceiling a nice mauve or cream can make the small room seem taller. I would stay away from white if at all possible, since white often times looks harsh, and is very distracting from the rest of the items in the room.

  3. Step 3

Remember in step one when we talked about a focal point? Hanging a well framed mirror in a small room can create depth and therefore make it look larger. If you wish, instead of a nice painting, hang a mirror and make it the focal point of the room.

  4. Step 4

Try smaller furniture. Don't crowd the small room with furniture that was obviously meant for a room the size of a small house, instead, choose smaller, comfortable chairs, lower tables, and use your space wisely.
