Things You'll Need:
- internet
- creative or deductive thinking
-
Step 1
Promoting your child's writing is very important. Promoting a child's writing helps them to learn to communicate better, express their thoughts, feelings and ideas better, and can increase their self esteem. This article's focus is online writing sites, but it should be noted that your local library, schools, park districts and some magazines offer writing classes and contests for children.
-
Step 2
To promote your child's writing, determine what your child would like or does like to write. There are sites dedicated to poetry, science fiction, anime, education, etc. Personally check out the sites before allowing your child to sign up. Many of the sites need adult permission, which ensure safety to your child.
-
Step 3
To promote your child's creative writing online, go to http://www.whatarekidssaying.com/. This is a great site that promotes writing. It offers kids under 18 the opportunity to write fiction, non fiction, enter writing contests and even vote on important world issues. (They can even download music, but that is just another added perk).
-
Step 4
Creative writing can also be promoted at www.tikatok.com. Kids ages 5 to 14 can write, illustrate and publish their own story book. The site is free to join. The cost of publishing and printing book is $20.
-
Step 5
Another wonderful site to promote creative writing is http://www.cyberkids.com/he/html/submit.html for ages 7-12. Kids can write stories, articles, games and brain teasers.
-
Step 6
For teens, cyberkids has its sister site: www.cyberteens.com. This website is for ages 12 to 18 year olds. It allows submissions of articles, stories and poems.
-
Step 7
Promoting your child's creative writing not only enhances their writing skills, communication and creativity, but also can improve their self esteem. It is important to note to continue to encourage your child to write either online or on the computer or paper and pencil if they enjoy writing. You may have the next Eric Carle or James Patterson.
