Step 1
First, keep in mind the theme or tone, color scheme, or date of your wedding when choosing colors for candles and designs on the plates. For example, a fall wedding will mean rusty reds and browns for candles and plates, whereas a more formal wedding might mean white or silver with fancier plates. Your cheap wedding centerpieces should still look like they've been planned with all other details!
-
Step 2
Second, you'll need to get a collection of plates, one for each table at your reception. Forget department stores and retailers and go to the dollar store, flea market, and secondhand store. Don't be afraid to mix and match designs as long as the plates look coordinated.
-
Step 3
Mix up the colors and heights of your candles.Third, you'll need a collection of candles you can group onto each plate for your cheap wedding centerpieces. Again, forget the major retailers and shop the dollar stores and flea markets. Mix up the colors, thicknesses, and especially the heights of the candles. You'll want to put several on each plate for maximum effect.
-
Step 4
Fourth, practice your arrangements at home to make sure you have enough candles. Take pictures, or put a small sticker with a number on the bottom of the candles and plates they go with so you can quickly assemble them at your reception site. Be prepared to go back to the store for more candles.
-
Step 5
Add embellishments if your budget allows.Fifth, depending upon your budget you can add embellishments on the plate around the candles, or on the table around the plate, but keep these coordinated with your wedding's colors or theme. For fall weddings, try pine cones. For fancier weddings, sprinkle silvery confetti on the table underneath the plate. You can even get some bunches of ferns or baby's breath and slip these around the candles.
