Five month olds bring a new challenge to entertainment!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pets
  • Outdoors
  • Stores/new places
  • Small groups of friends/family members
  • Stuffed animals/Puppets
  • New foods
  • Bath time
  • Exersaucer
  • Teethers
  • Music
  1. Step 1

Five month olds are more confident about exploring the world around them. Take them on errands with you, to the zoo, restaurants ect...

  2. Step 2

Small groups of friends and family members are great ways to entertain baby and teach him/her about socialization skills. Infants at this age feel overwhelmed in large crowds. Always sit in small groups (1-3 people) and let infants warm up to new people before interacting with them.

  3. Step 3

The outdoors, family pets, stoller rides, bath time are all great play activities to build into your infant routine. The outdoors will help build a healthy sleep/awake cycle, family pets teach children not to be afraid of animals, stoller rides are perfect before nap time activity, and bath time is a great way to end the day and will help baby fall alseep by lowering their core temperature.

  4. Step 4

Popular toys include: exersaucers, teethers, rattles, stuffed animals/puppets (interactive play- wrestling and tickling), and musical toys. Use these toys to play social games (peek-a-boo) and help build tummy time skills to work on your next developmental milestone- crawling! Get baby strong by doing lots of tummy time.

  5. Step 5

With the advice from your peditrician, continue to expand baby's diet to include level one baby foods. Always introduce one food at a time to monitor for allergies.

  6. Step 6

Five month olds have the TV figured out by now and love to watch it. It is not recommended that children this age watch TV. You will have to be creative to prevent your child from sneaking peaks! During difficult times, a TV set can always be used to provide a brief distraction to help you and/or your baby have a chance to calm down.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always supervise infants.
  • Monitor and remove choke hazards from toys.
  • Talk to your pediatrician before starting first foods.
  • Direct sun light and sun screen are not recommended for this age.
  • Watch for stranger anxiety starting to develop and introduce baby slowly to new people.
  • Never leave pets alone with your infant.
  • Make sure your home is baby proof, your little one will be mobile before you know it.
