How to Retake the ASVAB

So you didn't score as high as you wanted on the ASVAB. You know that certain military jobs require high scores on the science and technical portions of the test. And in order to qualify for an elite branch of the military, your AFQT (math and verbal part of the ASVAB) also needs to be pretty high. If you wnat a good military job, there's nothing left to do but retake the ASVAB!

How? First, understand the restriction on retesting and then make a new ASVAB study plan. Follow these steps to ensure that your ASVAB retake goes as smoothly as possible.

Instructions

1. You must let at least 1 calendar month pass before you can take another ASVAB. Also, you cannot take more than 3 ASVAB tests in any 6 month period. If you take on test on March 15, then you can't take a second until April 15. You can't take it a third time until May 15, and (God help you if you are taking it a 4th time!) you must wait until Sept 15 to retake the ASVAB for the 4th time.

2. When you retake the ASVAB, you must retake the entire test, you can't just redo the parts that you did poorly on. However, if you took it in the computer format the first time, you can take it in the paper format the second time and vise versa. You may find that one format is easier than the other.

3. Between ASVAB takes, make sure you study hard to improve your score on the sections that you scored low on. If timing was an issue, take several practice test to build up your speed and endurance. The more you practice under timed conditions, your accuracy and speed will improve.

4. If you work hard, you really can improve your scores by 20 points or more if you scored very low the first time. However, if your score goes up by 20 points or more on the AFQT, the recuitment office will ask you to take a confirmation test, just to make sure your dramatic improvement was not due to cheating.

   If you improved your score by hard work, you have nothing to worry about on the confirmation test.

5. Often, the reason why people earn a low ASVAB score the first time around is because they didn't make a realistic study schedule. Depending on your strengths and weaknesses, you may need to dedicate several hours a week to ASVAB study. It is supremely important that you save time to schedule full length practice tests as well.
