Step 1
The tools you need for this project is a shovel,grass starter fertilizer,metal rake,water,lawn roller,insect repelent fertilizer,grass seed.To grow grass and to fix patchy areas that need grass.You need to turn over the soil.Which means dig the area getting it ready for planting the grass.

Step 2
Get a shovel then you need to dig up the soil in the whole area.After you dig up the soil.Then you need to loosen the soil up and get rid of the clumps of dirt or loosen them up with a metal rake and weed the area of old grass and weeds.Then you even out the area with a metal rake.

Step 3
After the area is all even.Sprinkle some insect fertilizer down first and then the lawn fertilizer down on the area.Mix the fertilizer in to the dirt with the metal rake.Make the area even again.Then you can sprinkle the grass seed.Once this is done,you rol over the area with the lawn roller to push the seed into the soil then water the lawn.The best time to water the lawn is nearing when the sun is going down so when at night the lawn stays wet for many hours until the next day when the sun shines.

Step 4
Water the lawn every day when the sun is going down.Unless it rains out,you won't have to water the lawn.Nearing the end of the season in the fall and when or if your lawn has patchy spots and to grow grass in those areas.The best time to grow grass is in the fall.So the grass roots into the ground.Then the year after the grass can just grow.
