Dirty Faux Wood Blinds got you down?
Dirty Faux Wood Blinds got you down?

Faux wood blinds are a wonderful accent and relatively cheap. But after time, they can gather dirt and gunk. Never fear--cleaning is easier than you may think.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Dry Rag OR Vacuum w/Brush Attachment
  • Mild Household Detergent
  • Damp Rag OR Sponge
  1. Step 1
    Tilt Blinds

    Tilt Blinds

REMOVE LOOSE DUST: Tilt your blinds facing upwards. Using the dry rag, duster, or brush attachment, work your way in between the openings thoroughly from top to bottom.

Now, tilt your blinds in the opposite direction facing downwards and work your way from top to bottom in the same manner as above.

If your faux wood blinds are vertical styled, perform the procedure above in the same manner starting from either side, top to bottom to keep dust from resticking to the areas you just wiped.

  2. Step 2
Mix Household Detergent: Dishwashing, Laundry, etc.

PREPARE DETERGENT: Mix 1.5 teaspoons of ordinary, household mild detergent to a pint of water.

Faux wood blinds are more resilient and forgiving to water than real wood blinds and can handle mild detergent mixes with ease and no negative effects (unless otherwise noted by your manufacturer).

  3. Step 3
Damp wipe each blade of the faux wood blinds

DAMP CLEAN: Using the damp rag or sponge, use angle method from STEP 1 to gently wipe away grime on smooth surfaced faux wood blinds. For actual wood texture, you may have to allow several passes to each blade of the blinds.

  4. Step 4

DRY: If your faux wood blinds are not soiled heavily, you may choose to let the blinds air dry with time. However, if the blinds were fairly soiled, you may wish to give each blade a pass with a clean, dry rag to avoid water spots (this is especially true for white or cream finished faux wood blinds).

Tips & Warnings
  • #1) The 45% angle used throughout the cleaning process is to prevent the backsides of your faux wood blinds from harboring dirt and allows for you to reach the entire blade.
