Have you ever wondered why people are so different even if they have the same astrology sign? It's because their personalities are influenced by other astrology signs as well. To learn how they affect you, you need to draw your astrology chart. Your chart is really a map of the sky at the time you were born. The map is a full circle of 360 degrees, and it is divided into twelve Houses-one for each sign of the horoscope. Each House affects a different aspect of your life and is influenced by whichever horoscope sign is ruling it at the time of your birth. Here's how you figure that out:

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paper
  • Pen or pencil
  • Something to draw a circle with
  1. Step 1
    Astrology Wheel

    Astrology Wheel

First you need to draw a circle and divide it into twelve. Look at the circle as if it were a clock. Your First House is located where the 9 o'clock would be, so write that in. Your Second House is at the 8 o'clock, Third at 7 o'clock, and so forth, so that your Twelfth House is at the 10 o'clock position.

  2. Step 2

You need to know the correct order of the astrology signs. That is: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. The date of your birth determines what astrology sign you are.

  3. Step 3

Now look at your birth certificate or ask your mother what time of day you were born. If daylight savings time was in effect, subtract one hour from that time. For our example we will use a Leo born at 11:30 a.m. Since Leos are born from the end of July through late August, you subtract an hour because of daylight savings time, so you have 10:30 a.m.

  4. Step 4

Dividing the day into two-hour time blocks starting with 4-6am, count the astrology signs starting with your own sun sign until you reach the time of your birth. Using the Leo example above, you would count 4-6am is Leo, 6-8am is Virgo, 8-10am is Libra, and 10 a.m.-12 noon is Scorpio. Our Leo was born at 10:30 a.m. so we stop there, and Scorpio would rule the First House. Let's try another example: for an Aquarian born at 7:10 p.m., you would count 4-6am is Aquarius, 6-8am is Pisces, 8-10am is Aries, 10-12noon is Taurus, 12 noon-2pm is Gemini, 2-4pm is Cancer, 4-6pm is Leo, and 6-8pm is Virgo. So the Aquarian example has Virgo ruling the First House.

  5. Step 5

Calculating what sign rules your First House is one of the most important aspects. The First House represents the astrological sign that was on the eastern horizon at the time you were born. The sign that rules your First House is also called your Rising Sign. Even though a person's basic characteristics are ruled by his Sun Sign, his Rising Sign signifies the personality he or she shows to the people around him.

  6. Step 6

Now that you have written the Rising Sign into the space for the First House, you can write in the astrology signs for the Second through Twelfth Houses. You follow the reverse order of the clock, just as you did when you drew the circle. You write in the signs in the order listed in Step 2, beginning with your Rising Sign. If you have written Scorpio into the First House at the 9 o'clock position, you put Sagittarius into the Second House which would be at the 8 o'clock position, Capricorn for the Third House at 7 o'clock, and so forth.

  7. Step 7

You know the First House represents the personality you show to the world. The Second House signifies your financial soundness and how you feel about material things. The Third House represents your mental aptitudes, your childhood, and your siblings. Fourth House is your home life. Fifth House rules your children and creativity. Sixth House, your work life, employer, and hygiene. Seventh House, your marriage or business partners. Eighth House, legal issues and your attitude toward death. Ninth House, religion, philosophy, and significant traveling. Tenth House, reputation, worldly standing, social status. Eleventh House, friends, clubs, hopes, and wishes. Twelfth House, the subconscious mind, dreams, hidden problems.

  8. Step 8

In most cases this method will accurately tell you what your Rising Sign is, and your chart will be correct. You can also look up what signs the various planets were in on the day of your birth, and then you can write them into each House where they belong on your chart. This is a good way to have fun, looking up the characteristics of each horoscope sign and seeing how they apply to different areas of your life. And whenever you read the daily horoscope in the newspaper, be sure to read the horoscope for your Sun Sign AND your Rising Sign.

Tips & Warnings
  • This is a lot of fun to do for yourself, your friends and family, and your children!
  • If you were born close to the exact hour, there's a chance your Rising Sign might be off. As you learn more about astrology, you can search the Internet to learn more about calculating this exactly.
