Start cleaning a cast iron skillet by adding water to the skillet and, with a clean rag, scrub the food off of the pan. If the food is heavily cooked on, try heating up the pan and scraping the skillet with a metal spatula.

After the pan is cleaned off, wipe down with vegetable oil and a paper towel. This protects the pan from corrosion and helps to season the skillet.

  3. Step 3

Store the pan covered with a dry towel. This keeps dust from settling on the skillet. Before using the skillet again, you can wipe it down with a paper town and oil. This will remove any impurities that may have settled on the skillet if improperly covered.
