Tulips are a lovely spring flower, and they make a beautifully colorful arrangement for use as a centerpiece, or vocal point on a hall table.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tulips in complimentary colors.
  • A suitable vase or interesting container.
  • Scissors.
  • Water and flower preserver from your florist.
  • Pitcher or watering can.
  1. Step 1

Remove the tulips from the floral paper or wrapping to prepare for the arrangement. You'll want to have a nice, flat surface for working. A table or counter works well.

  2. Step 2

Trim the tulips so that their lengths vary. I cut the tulips I used for my arrangement at two different lengths. Cut the stems at an angle. Remove any excess leaf material. If you've selected different colors of tulips, be sure to mix them up so you have multiple colors at each of the various lengths.

  3. Step 3

Arrange the shorter tulips around the perimeter of the empty container. Crossing the stems as you arrange the flowers helps to create a web to anchor the taller flowers.

  4. Step 4

Place the taller tulips in the center of the arrangement. You'll need to turn flowers and rearrange until you have a pleasing arrangement that looks good from all sides.

  5. Step 5

Once the arrangement looks good, mix the flower preserver in warm water and water the arrangement. I use warm water because it encourages the bulbs to open up.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure you have plenty of flowers to truly fill the container.
  • Put the tulips in so they fill the vase tightly. Tulips tend to bend over and this keeps them upright.
  • If there is too much leafy material on some of the stems, remove it.
  • Select tulips that have not opened yet to ensure a longer life for your arrangement.
