Things You'll Need:
- golf clubs

Step 1
The proper golf grip is about the fingers. The most common mistake is to have a grip that holds the golf club into the palm of the hand. Another common mistake is to hold the club too tightly. Your hold should be firm, but not too tight or hard. A grip that is too hard will not allow the rotation of the club or extension of the swing that you need.

Step 2

With the golf club head square to the ball, grip the club across your fingers with your thumb extended down the shaft (pointing to the ball). In the proper golf club grip. the finger line will start at the second joint of the lead hand's index finger and end at the little finger's pad. The thumb should be straight down and a little to the right of the shaft (just a notch).

Step 3
Now take your trailing (bottom) hand and place it so that the thumb pad covers the thumb of your lead hand. The thumb of your lead hand should now rest in the lifeline of your trailing hand. Wrap your fingers around the golf club grip. The 'V' of the right hand should be pointing to your right shoulder.

Step 4
Outside view of interlocking gripFor an interlocking grip, the little finger of your trailing hand is placed between the little and ring finger of the lead hand, and wrapped slightly around the base of the ring finger. In an overlapping grip, the little finger of the trailing hand rest on the groove between the same fingers on the lead hand. In a ten finger grip, the trailing hand is placed below and touching the lead hand.
