Sew Headboard Covers for Every Season

If the headboard of your bed has seen better days, or if you just want a change, these headboard covers are easy to make. They are primarily for a rectangular shaped headboard.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Iron on quilters batting
  • tape measure
  • scissors
  • material
  • iron on hemming tape
  • needle and matching thread
  • 2 yards ribbon
  • pins
  • iron
  • material of choice
  1. Step 1

Measure the width and height of the headboard, then double the height measurement so that the material folds in half over the top. Cut the material.
Cut the batting to the size of the front of the headboard. Press onto the underside of the material. This batting will be at the front of the headboard.

  2. Step 2

Using the iron on hemming tape, turn up about 1/2 inch along all edges of the material to make a clean edge, and iron in place.

  3. Step 3

To make the ties, cut ribbon into 16 equal lengths, (these will be tied in a bow, so make them long enough).
Sew 4 ribbons, equally spaced, along the inside edges of each side of the cover.

  4. Step 4

Fold the cover over the headboard and tie the ribbons in bows. You could make many of these, or at least, one for each season. They are so easy to make, with just a little sewing knowledge.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use gingham for a crisp bright look
  • Use floral for a romantic look
  • Use a stripe for a more formal look
  • Vary the Ribbons as to style and texture.
