There is nothing more satisfying for a dog owner and his/her canine friend than to do dog sports together. One of the most fun sports to do with a dog is agility training. Here are some tips on how to train dog agility with your canine pal.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Dog agility is a sport in which dogs and their owners compete with the clock in running an obstacle course. First the dog needs to learn how to negotiate each individual obstacle and follow the commands of his/her owner. Then the owner needs to memorize the course during a trial or competition and encourage the pup to race through the series of ramps, see-saws, jumps and more to finish in good time.

  2. Step 2

Dog agility is fun and a good way for both human and dog to get mind and body exercise.

  3. Step 3

Doing a dog sport like agility can be helpful for a dog with behavioral problems. Although a group sport like this is not the best place for bringing a dog with aggression problems, many other behaviors can be improved by enforcing an improved self-confidence for your dog. It also helps build a better bond and respect between the owner and the dog.

  4. Step 4

There are excellent social benefits to participating in agility. Dogs learn how to better interact with other dogs. And people can meet friends with a love of dogs in common.

  5. Step 5

You can join agility clubs, buy your own equipment to practice with or build your own obstacles. For more information on where to find out about how to train dog agility for your dog, please check the links listed below under Resources.
