Love those long jeans. I have the hardest time finding low rise jeans that are just perfect in length. Jeans tend to be one-foot size past my ankle. Being petite has its advantages but not when it comes to those cute low rise jeans. Clothing stores just do not seem to favor low rise jean style in petite jeans. If so, they are often not available due to popularity in size. Professional alterations can be costly and most places do not know to leave the cute edging at the bottom of the jean in tact. Hemming jeans, this way is not easy either. However, there is a solution. A temporary quick fix to hem any pair of jeans in a matter of minutes that does not ruin the look by removing the cute edge along the bottom of the jean. Follow the steps here and turn those low rise jeans into petite jeans.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Jeans
  • Staple gun
  • Hem tape (optional)
  • Needle and thread (optional)
  1. Step 1
Jeans at the desired length with cuff

Slip on your jeans and put on the shoes you choose to wear with the jeans. Cuff both legs in one large cuff to the desired length.

  2. Step 2
    Fold Jeans for hemming

Carefully remove the jeans. Use straight pins along the bottom edge to keep the hem from slipping out. Check the length on both sides to make sure they are even with each other.

  3. Step 3
Staple the jean length wise along the seam

Now fold the large cuff back under the jeans pant leg to hide the material.
Simply pull the bottom edge of the jean back down just past the set hemline.
With the staple gun and staple the jeans. Make sure the longest side of the staple is facing the inside of the pants so that you will not notice the staples. Staple the hem along the seam length ways. Then carefully staple just slightly above, right along the fold near the hem.

  4. Step 4

Action completed! Not a penny on alterations to turn those low rise jeans to petite jeans.
The original jean material is still in tact and looking cute as ever.

Tips & Warnings
  • Staple the jeans in a pinch. If time allows sew or use hem tape for longer lasting more secure hem.
  • Staples will even hold up in the wash and if they come out the jeans have a natural crease that will be easy to find for re-stapling.
  • Make sure the desired length is even on both sides before stapling.
