Drawstring Bags come in various shapes and sizes. The bags themselves could be considered as gifts. Most people use candy -filled drawstring bags as gift favors at weddings. These cute bags look somewhat complicated but they are quite easy to make.
For the purposes of this article, we will explain how to make a square drawstring gift bag

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

The first thing to consider when making a drawstring bag is the size and shape of the bag, in order to purchase the right amount of fabric. This would help in determining the amount of fabric to use. Usually the size of the gift plays an important role in making a determination.

  2. Step 2

Next you will cut your chosen fabric into two rectangles. Sew the two pieces together at the sides and bottom. Leave about an inch opening on the sides about four inches away from the top. Continue sewing the sides all the way to the top.

  3. Step 3

Cut string into two, making sure that string is slightly longer than the width of the bag. This means that if the width of the bag is seven inches, cut the strings as long as 10 inches.

  4. Step 4

Lay strings on the top of the bag in opposite directions and pin in place. Fasten the ends of the string to the sides of the bag. Fold the top of your bag over, having the fold facing the wrong side of the bag. Fold top over once more to cover rough edges and to prevent fraying.

  5. Step 5

Sew the top of the bag all around. Pull the strings through the open sides of the bag. Bag should open and close as you move the strings

Tips & Warnings
  • Practice making the bag first with cheap muslin fabric before using your expensive ones.
  • Remember to remove safety pins from the edges of bag before sewing
