Choosing a major and future career in college is a tough decision, but not an impossible one.
Choosing a major and future career in college is a tough decision, but not an impossible one.

Choosing a major while in college is not always easy. It takes some careful thought, but remember, it is not the most important decision of your life.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

BE OPEN MINDED. Don't limit yourself, take a wide variety of classes your freshman and sophomore years of college. Take these years to experience as many different subjects as possible. Try out philosophy, biology, english, math, and psychology. You have plenty of time.

  2. Step 2

TALK TO YOUR ADVISERS. Take time to schedule an appointment and talk about college majors with your academic advisers and counselors. Take a trip to the career research center, there are usually pamphlets there on all different types of careers and majors. especially do this if you're premed or prelaw, these people are a great resource.

  3. Step 3

DO WHAT INTERESTS YOU. You don't have to be a doctor if you don't want to. You don't have to be an engineer if you don't want to. The list goes on and on. Do something that interests you, not something that will make you rich or make your parents and friends happy. Study something that makes you happy, something that you have a passion for.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be exploratory if you have to. No one is twisting your arm to choose a major the second you are admitted into college, take you time.
  • Take as many different classes as possible. You'll regret it if you don't.
  • Don't be afraid to change your major. Plenty of people do it, it is not set in stone.
  • Don't get caught up with making money. I know its cliche, but money cant buy happiness.
