Make Cabbage Soup for the Cabbage Soup Diet

The cabbage soup diet is a quick way to lose weight. Though NO ONE advocates doing this diet long term, it can be a jump start to a more long term diet plan. It can help you through a dieting plateau or simply help you lose a few difficult pounds.

Remember, no diet should be done without the consent of a licensed doctor.

If you are going to follow the cabbage soup diet, here's how to make the soup.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cabbage Soup Ingredients:
  • 6 large green onions
  • 2 green peppers
  • 1 or 2 cans of tomatoes (diced or whole)
  • 3 Carrots

  • 1 bunch of celery
  • half a head of cabbage
  • 1 package Lipton soup mix
  • 1 or 2 cubes of bouillon (optional)
  • 1 48oz can V8 juice (optional)
  • Season to taste with salt, pepper, parsley, curry, garlic powder, etc.
  1. Step 1

Spray a large stock pot or Dutch oven with cooking spray. Dice onions and sauté until they are translucent.

  2. Step 2

Cut peppers, carrots, celery, mushrooms and cabbage into bite sized pieces and add them to the pot with 12 cups of water (or 8 cups water and 48oz of V-8 juice) and the tomatoes.

  3. Step 3

Add Lipton soup mix, bouillon cubes and any seasonings like salt, pepper, garlic powder or cumin.

  4. Step 4

Cook covered on low heat for about two hours.

  • This diet may produce fast weight loss, but it is NOT recommended to be done long term.
