How to Make Autographed Window Shades

Installing window shades is an easy fix for a picky teens room. Autographed window shades are guaranteed to be one of a kind. They are thrifty, very easy to make, and functional too.

Things You'll Need:

• window shade
• sharpie pen
• tape measure
• pencil
• flat head screwdriver
• Phillips head screwdriver
• level

1. Make autographed window shades by purchasing only good quality window shades. Pay a few dollars more for a shade that is stronger and ensures privacy. Also, know that a better window shade will have a good working spring roller mechanism.

2. Gather tools needed to make autographed window shades. With the pencil, mark inside window frame where you will be installing brackets to hold your window shades. Ensure your pencil lines are level. Follow the manufacturer's instructions in the handy sheet included with your shade.
   
   Once you've installed the window shades, you can finish off the outside of your frame with fabric. Drape colorful remnant fabric over a standard curtain rod for an inexpensive no-sew window treatment.

3. Whenever a friend comes to visit, your teen can have them autograph the window shade with the permanent marker. Autographed window shades are fun and functional window coverings and they are definitely one of a kind. :)

Tips & Warnings

• The picture is of the window shade I installed in my teen daughter's room when she was in high school. It was a big hit with her friends as every time her older brother's friends came to the house, she'd have them autograph it too.
• It's a fun, inexpensive project and makes a great keepsake.

on 2/14/2009 What a great idea for college dorms, kids nurseries, etc. It reminds me of signing a cast, but instead a windowshade. If tastefully done this could work for a babyshower as well.
