Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with Irish Green Beer

An Irish St. Patrick’s Day isn’t complete without green beer. Green beer is easy to make and adds to the festivity of St. Patrick’s Day.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • light beer
  • blue food coloring
  • frosty mug
  1. Step 1

Buy a case of light beer and liquid blue food coloring. You can make green beer with dark beer, but light beer results in a better green beer.

  2. Step 2

Put enough glass mugs in the freezer for you and your friends that will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with you.

  3. Step 3

Let the mugs get nice and frosty in the freezer. This may take up to an hour.

  4. Step 4

Pop open a bottle of beer and squeeze a few drops of blue food coloring into the beer. Blue food coloring works better than green food coloring when making Irish green beer for St. Patrick’s Day. This is because beer is yellow, so when you add blue food coloring you will get a greener color than if you use green food coloring.

  5. Step 5

Pour the beer, with the added food coloring, into your frosty mug. The food coloring should mix nicely with your beer as it is transferred to the mug, and you should now have Irish green beer for St. Patrick’s Day!

on 2/15/2009 Great tip on using the blue food coloring; I would have added green to my beer and been disappointed. Green beer is so fun!
